I can’t believe we’re at the end of another busy term, it feels as though it has flown by! Thank you to everyone for your continued support, I am so proud how all of the dancers have managed to carry on with their training despite all the ups and downs we are going through. This newsletter includes important dates for term four, information for our end of year performance, and an exciting workshop we’ll be holding so please read on 😊 This information has also been emailed to all enrolled families.
Important Dates
Tuesday 22nd September – No classes

Friday 13th November – No classes (Show Day)
Friday 11th December – Theatre Rehearsals
Saturday 12th December – Alice in Wonderland Performance
Saturday 12th December – Last day of Term Four

End of Year Performance
Our focus for term four is going to be our end or year performance of Alice in Wonderland. The performance will be held on the 12th of December. All of our dancers are invited to be a part of this performance, dances will be taught in their usual classes. If your dancer will not be participating, could you please let me know by the 10th October. There is a cost to being involved in the performance – $51.75 for single dancer (pre-schoolers not included), $74.75 for families. This covers staff wages for rehearsal and performance days, costume maintenance, theatre hire for rehearsals, and administration costs. If you do not let us know that your dancer will not participate you will be charged the recital fee to cover time spent on costumes, choreography, and administration.
In the event that we will be under level 2 during the performance, we have a few plans in place to allow the show to continue for the dancers (live streaming, filming, and limiting the audience to 100). To avoid any issues with ticketing, it has been decided that we will not make tickets available for purchase until Saturday 5th December. We may need to limit the guests students bring as well but I will keep you informed!
There will also be some additional rehearsals held on Sundays in the lead up to the show – we will let you know of these dates asap.
Some lessons times will be changed next term to allow for classes who are performing together to rehearse. You will be emailed directly to inform you of the changes.
Workshop for Performance Hair and Makeup
We have had some requests to hold a workshop for parents and dancers on how to do hair and makeup for dancer. I am excited to announce that we will hold a workshop in term 4!
This workshop will cover the secret to a performance ponytail, how to make the perfect ballet bun, and basic stage makeup.
You can attend as a parent and bring your dancer to practice on or dancers aged 10+ can attend on their own to learn how to do it themselves. $10 each.
Date: Sunday 8th November
Where: Canterbury Academy of Dance (1 Hereford Street, The Arts Centre)
Time: 10:30am – 12:00pm

Accomplishments and Upcoming Events
Congratulations to our wonderful junior ballet dancers who were able to sit their Royal Academy of Dance class award examinations for Mrs Robertson on Monday. I am so proud of all of the dancers! We can expect results at the start of next term.

– The dancers who have been selected to audition for a “child extra” position in the Royal New Zealand Ballet performance of Sleeping Beauty – dance your best and don’t forget to let your personality shine!
– The dancers who have been preparing a dance for the Fashion Show and Gala fundraisers – hopefully these performances will go ahead in October!
– And finally, good luck to the Intermediate Foundation dancers who have their Royal Academy of Dance exams on the 24th October.
